Not so. The neoconservatives largely started out as anti- communist liberals. Kristol helped Stephen Spender found Encounter in the Fifties, and Podhoretz was a frequent contributor to Partisan Review from the time he was at Columbia. If Podhoretz was in any manner late, it was because he was in college and the Army in the early '50s. The whole point of mentioning the exodus of such people from the Democratic Party is that they were the bulk of the anti- communist liberals (and, in some cases, anti- communist socialists). Apart from the inaccuracy of the comments on the principal neoconservatives, I have no argument with you......
