BTW, wouldn't that mean that P4's branch prediction is well above 100%? Whoa! ;)

no; if P3 is missing %5, P4 will be missing %3.5 (.7*5). So the actual improvement is from %95 predictions to %96.5 predictions.

I have grown a little cynical...

When I started out in this industry, I held the architects in great awe. Over time, I realized that most were not all that great, and now that I'm in charge, I know for sure that only minimal qualifications are required.....

The one exception of course is Dirk, who stands alone in this industry. He is the Michael Jordan, or Pele of CPU architects.

just add more branches. :)
