I would separate "news" that is fundamental in nature versus "news" that is more subjective ie upgrades/downgrades. If the company makes an earnings surprise announcement on the downside that is negative fundamental news that has changed the perceived value of the company. PE has changed and thus must be re-priced. As a trader there will be opportunities while everyone tries to decide what that new price should be.

When the market was very nervous a month ago you would see a company preannounce in after hours an earnings shortfall. BAMM!! that stock would open the next morning off 50%. If, and it is a big IF, one could get a short off, there was money to be made.

Big fat churn at QKKA going on, stocks soars 50% afterhours on NBC warrants news (ie NBC gets the right to invest). Who has the balls & short the stock, currently asking 10?
