According to various estimates there are at least twelve million regular users of illegal drugs, and possibly as many as forty million. We now have about
1.5 million people in prisons and jails across the country, and all the jail cells are already full. It is immediately obvious to everyone that we cannot afford
to put forty million people in prison, even if it was a good idea. In fact, we cannot afford to put twelve million people in jail, either.

So, how many do we want to jail? Multiply by $500,000 to arrive at costs.

Legalization is a legitimate subject but requires much thought and doesn't respond to bromides. Give Harry credit that he doesn't talk down to people, at least the ones who will vote for liberty. The sheep want safety,....above all. They'll end up with less of everything else.

One of the more difficult things about basing the party's platform on principle is that principles is that the party must adhere to them, rather than pander to public perception and demagoguery. I have confidence that in the fullness of time the public will see through the canard of the drug war. I have no fear that Negroes will start raping white women if the insanity of prohibition is repealed.

Barb

Many civilizations have thrived without criminalizing the private use of mood altering substances.

I don't use them, never have, not even alcohol, never will. But if others want to in ways that don't interfere with my rights, I see no reason why we should throw them in jail at enormous cost to me and you, not to mention turning productive citizens into criminals.

Stupid.
