LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2000--Power Technology, Inc.
(OTCBB: PWTC) today announced that it has entered into negotiations to
acquire Bipolar Power International (BPI), a distinguished research
and development company located in Whittier, Calif.
BPI has been involved in advanced battery development and electric
vehicle projects for over 25 years, having developed a number of
proprietary battery technologies that helped to provide significant
increases in the power, energy and life of today's lead-acid
batteries.
Power Technology will combine its patented metal-foam technology
with BPI's own proprietary battery technology in an accelerated effort
towards the commercialization of an advanced battery. Work will take
place at BPI's 8,000 square foot facility in Whittier.
Power Technology has requested that Jeff Arias, President and CEO
of BPI, present the results of his initial testing on the Power
Technology patented foam plates at Power Technology's annual
shareholder meeting this Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev.
Lee Balak, President of Power Technology, stated, "The acquisition
of BPI would provide Power Technology with the ability to fast-track
the commercialization of a battery utilizing Mr. Snaper's reticulated
plate structure. This effort could also provide a battery for the
electric wheelchair market, a $30 million segment which is just one of
a number of potential niche markets for the Company's products."
Power Technology's director, Dr. Hugh Pomrehn, who has headed up
the negotiation process with BPI, stated, "I have complete confidence
that the two organizations can merge their technologies and produce
battery products that will advance the performance standards of the
lead-acid battery industry."
Power Technology, Inc. is a Las Vegas-based technology development
company, which holds several patents in the power generation and power
storage fields, and is working to provide innovative and practical
technology solutions for commercial, government, and industrial
applications worldwide.
