Re: Suppose you are correct, and a major market correction will in fact take place that has a serious effect on the economy as a whole. Wouldn't you rather have a person who you have confidence in to be in charge during the critical time?

Jozef,

In my opinion, the president plays very little role in this type of situation. Damage control at best.... but is the president really in there on emergency fed meetings? Maybe, but do you think they have a clue as to what's the right decision to make? I don't.

But you better believe whoever is the president will take the heat in the next election. Reagon and Bush Sr. set up Clinton, but who gets the credit? (the investing community knows it's Reagon/Bush, but not the voters) If Gore or GW doesn't run in 2004, I think their party will take the heat and their candidate will not get elected (if the market meltdown I see happening materializes).

I believe if GW is elected in 2000, a republican will have no chance in 2004. It's a long term investment. Let Gore fail now and pay up for all of Clinton's shenanigans so someone more capable can take over in 2004. -ggg-

So, you have confidence in W? Whose main experience is being governor in a weak governor state for 6 or 8 years?

And I even sort of like W, though I'd never vote for him, mainly on the Supreme Court issue. If you want, though, I can point you to many SI threads where he's worshipped, and where anyone who disputes Republican orthodoxy usually gets ganged up on by 3 or 4 people who make Paul Engel in full flame mode look diplomatic.

Cheers, Dan.
