I doubt that most people who will vote for Bush because Gore has a Jewish running mate would have voted for Gore in the first
place. The choice showed a lot of courage, and revealed a capacity for risk-taking that I thought Gore completely lacked.

There are anti-semites on the left as well as the right. Also if he isn't losing votes (because the people that would not vote for a Jewish running mate would not vote for Gore anyway according to you), then how is it showing courage.

What would impress me more then some one picking a Jewish running mate would be some one picking a Jewish running mate and no one making a big deal about it.

Frank,

I don't know whether your first statement is true or not.

Re your second statement, I, too, agree that it was a surprise...and I do think its a big risk and I feel pretty sure he was advised against it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Frank Re...<<<<I doubt that most people who will vote for Bush because Gore has a Jewish running mate would have voted for Gore in the first place. The choice showed a lot of courage, and revealed a capacity for risk-taking that I thought Gore completely lacked.<<<<

Frank, the problem with the second statement is that Lieberman was chosen primarily because Gore didn't have the courage to say enough is enough to Bill when he should have. Because Al was behind in the polls on this issue, he had to correct his image by chosing someone who had the courage to do so. There are three problems with this approach. First Lieberman probably is closer to G W than Al on his ideals concerning school choice and free trade. Secondly, now we are choosing our Vice Presidents not on what they are for but who they are against; and once again image controls substance. Third, the person who has the courage to lead should lead; in other words Joe should be going for Pres. not Al. Taking polls and saying or doing whatever is popular in the polls is not my idea of leadership.
