The decision to allow developers to learn Tornado Prototyper for free is an essential ingredient of what should be a general strategy to solidify Windriver's lead going into the post-PC era.

Windriver has been slow to recognize this strategy as essential to ensure they maintain their leadership position when the embedded market explodes.

This model is akin to the "Gillette" strategy - give away the razor, but sell the blades.
