Cyberman you are correct I say and if you're from New England - thrilled.

Here's what the Pats site has to say:

patriots.com

Dont know whether to wear my Pats or CMGI hat to the November 5 Buffalo game.

Marketing genius.

I'm a Mass. boy -- in fact I live about 10 miles from the Stadium, so I think this is neat. But let's not get carried away, folks. Think of the OS/2 bowl and the Insight.com bowl to think of the value and "staying" power of some of these naming partnerships.

I'm tempted to call this an IR stunt. With all due respect to those discussing "branding," the only "brand equity" CMGI has is in the investing community. Period. No business is saying I need to buy a CMGI product. And virtually any consumer is going to say, "CMG-wha?" Its sole value is among investors. I guarantee -- unless you're an investor or in the Internet industry or live in Andover, you as a sports fan have no frickin idea who CMGI is. How does putting your name in front of Joe ScreenPass sell more software? It doesn't -- but it might sell some shares!

I agree with the post that said it might have been smarter to put AltaVista on the name -- THAT's a brand that consumers (i.e. sports fans) might recognize.

I think in some ways, this also sends a strong signal to the Street that we're still damn strong and confident about our prospects. By comparison: can you envision ICGE, WCAP, or SFE doing something as bold and big as this?

I'm also amazed at how much money Kraft gets out of this -- ~20% of his stadium just got paid for by CMGI!
