"I am going to spar with you a bit."

Cooters,

I have written of my preference for I-Mode's software architecture over WAP many times. Being browser based, it offers seamless, superior compatibility with wireless IP.

WAP, as presently constructed, will, over time, be rendered useless, in my view.

I-Mode's present content is uninspired. Much of its popularity is due to a rapid messaging service that is loved by adolescents - in a world without PC email and instant messaging. It has become kiddie fashion. A very finicky consumer group, whose tastes are mercurial.

It is my view that I-Mode will see new competitors - with backend software/applications also constructed with browser-based architecture. I look to MSFT and CSCO.

NTT's serious mistake lies in their obsession with keeping I-Mode content proprietary. You cannot, for instance, access web sites not part of NTT's program. If NTT were less anal, they would establish the foundations for the post-WAP open standard that is integral with IP architecture.

If NTT doesn't, someone else will.

Just can't stop my happy feet tonight!
