Tony, most likely the author wrote his story under pressure. He had to finish it by a certain time, and his last few sentences were not as clear as they should be.

It's not unusual for journalists to make mistakes at one time or another. If you look at your local newspaper, you'll probably see a headline for corrections. NYTimes has one, for instance. I've heard commentators on evening stock market news make mistakes, but that was because they raced against time. Sometimes, they correct their mistakes. Sometimes, they don't.

Generally, it's not a big deal.
