Is it just that one pays to use Island?

For subscribing firms, Island orders which remove liquidity from the book (hits & takes) cost $.00250/share (-$2.50/1000 shs); orders which add liquidity to the book (posted bids and offers) pay $.001/share (+$1.00/1000 shs).

Not sure why they do this. It probably just depends on each individual traders preferences.
