Del, you misread what I posted. There is evidence Antarctic was mostly free of ice about 20,000 to 30,000 years ago. It was also free of ice during the Jurassic period about 65 million years ago.

Come on... I'm weary of people at SI telling me what I do and do not know. I took paleontology as part of my science courses in college. I took many science courses.

As for this:

The Geographic North and South Poles never move. They are defined as the points where the Earth turns on it's axis. It is the continents that move freely around the Earth. The poles are always the coldest places on Earth because they get the least sunlight.

I know about the geographic and magnetic poles, because I also have a private pilot's license.

I am referring to Earth-shifts here. When the rotation about the axis becomes unstable, the precessional wobble increases and the Earth can literally flip, creating a NEW axis it revolves around. Strong evidence exists that has occurred in the past. We may be approaching a time when it occurs again. Recent measurements show that the wobble has increased and the Earth's rotation is slowing down (in part, also due Luna.)

Some evidence suggests that the region in the Pacific where Hawaii now lies was once the geographic North Pole. Before the last Earth-shift.
