September Q will be another boring Q for MSFT this time around, jd. Get used to it for the remainder of the year.

MSFT is a FY01 story.

I dont think we will see much revenue/profitability surprise during this qtr.
MSFT upside is most likely after Jan 01, by then win 2000( and associated products) sales will have had some time to start coming through and some positive news (hopefully) will be emerging from the court case appeal.
But the real potential in the future is the release of win 2000 personal in October 2001. This will be the first significant upgrade for consumer pc's since win 95. The credibility of win 2000 will have been firmly established from the business version and there will be very compelling reasons for consumers (ie all the win 95, 98 users)to ugrade because of;
- greater stability
- increasing trend to networking of home based pc's

Obvserving MSFT daily stock price movement, it can be seen that there is strong buying support at $70 so this looks like a firm bottom level. Unfortunately we have to be patient for the next 5 months, but as a firm believer in the 'fool' principles of buy and hold great companies I am quite happy to wait this one out.

When MSFT does start movung again, dont be surprised if it suddenly puts on $10-$20 in a month.

What would it take for MSFT to break out of ~82 resistance?

Could we gather our synergies here and jot-down a few of the reasons that we can think of, that will make MSFT price shoot-off beyond the recent resistance ~82?

As a start, a few comments:
(1) Post-Labor-day volume surge will help it break it.
(2) Windows2000 sales numbers will help it break it.
(3) Future +ve expectations at the earnings time this quarter, will help it break it!

Please add a few points in the above list from your side.

regards to all,

p.s. check out some recent breakouts in BMCS, DGV, IMGN, and CPQ. Also, some excellent bottom-fishing plays presently IMHO are: KAB, SSOL, QCOM and OMKT !
