kumar, it is obvious to anyone that microsoft spending 100m is chump change. that was not the point. the point is not 100m spent to produce chips. the point is that they ( microsoft ) are so serious about webtv that they are willing to spend 100m to produce them. the point being that this is further collaboration of the seriousness attributed to microsoft's commitment to the itv market. the point is that microsft has, as you pointed out, always been in the software business & for the 1st time is venturing into the chip arena, an area which intel dominates & therefore clearly demonstrates microsoft's desire to shore-up a steady supply of chips to support their move into the itv market via webtv. why is this important to gmst? because, microsoft has already in place orders for 15 million set-top boxes, has an agreement with europe's largest cable operator ( despite the recent delay ) & has clearly indicated that they ( microsoft ) consider the future of the internet so vital to their company, that they have invested billions of dollars ( no chump change here ) in buying stakes in cable companies around the world ( a move which might explain why aol wishes to buy time warner ). as for a non-attributable quote, i agree with you & should not have even posted it & frankly i'm not even sure i heard it correctly either. so if the trend is your friend & your a gmst long, knowing that our patents are vital for microsoft to proceed & they are paying us to use them, then i thought the move as significant.

salude

competency.>

<the company has always been a software company>

intel has mostly been a semiconductor company, but that don't mean they ain't good at writing software.
