Have any of you heard of the ASON standard? Who supports it besides Nortel?

Taking solutions from the sub-wavelength layer to the wavelength layer, OPTera Connect HDX
will allow seamless introduction of new technologies. Designed to improve network efficiency
and cost management, it will also provide Intelligent Optical Connectivity using signaling and
routing capabilities based on the Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) standard.
ASON is designed to enable open, end-to-end set-up and control of sub-wavelength,
wavelength or multi-wavelength optical connections.

James, Has the gorilla (Nortel) just moved into the space occupied by the chimps (Ciena and Sycamore)? Sounds like it and sounds like they are using signalling and something called ASON to do it.
