Pravin re <<Yeah right!!! They couldn't even duplicate the problem until this last weekend. So much for their extensive testing. I wonder who Micky D. thinks sells "fragile" products now. That SOB.>>

ROFLMAO!!!!!!

You sound pissed!

Well, FWIW, AMD is now once again, the undisputed MHz king. Volume or not!

I loved the part about no 1.13 GHz for "couple of months". By then AMD will be at (at least) 1.2 GHz, probably 1.3 GHz. And after willy and its monster die size arrives in very limited quantity, AMD will have a better performing mustang and equal clock speed in volume.

There is no doubt that we are looking at two more consecutive all time record breaking quarters to bring the PE to around 12. Intel has no choice but not to cut ASP's and that means Q1 and Q2 of 2001 one should also be records for their respective quarters. And then the fun starts as Willy ramps and goes head to head with much smaller and efficient Mustang and AMD readies the hammer.

I guess we'll really see just how much Dell is "Intels b*tch" after this one...

Intel recalls 1.13GHz Pentium IIIs zdnet.com

Here's the ZDNET followup story, also with choice quotes. A good first quip:

The chip shipped July 31.

And there's probably been at least 2 more shipped since then. Only slightly less sarcastically,

Intel is working with its PC manufacturer customers to recover the processors that have been shipped to end users. Out of all the PC manufacturers in North America, only Dell Computer Corp. and IBM Corp. have shipped significant quantities of the chip.

Didn't chic or somebody say that IBM had gotten 40, with no more in sight? A new definition of "significant quantities", I guess, though Mikey probably got a few more.

Cheers, Dan.
