John,

Yes, I remember that bill - simply stated - the largest tax increase in history

The bill was a mix of 50% tax hikes and 50% budget cuts. Rush Limbaugh warned night after night that it would lead to collapse of the economy.

After the bill passed, the Fed relaxed and cut interest rates. The amazing rise in the stock market began, and the rest is history.

I'm up to here with Clinton sour grapes. The economy has behaved brilliantly under Clinton. Deal with it!

John

I remember the days of exploding deficits well. Budgets are balanced by either/both tax increases/reduced spending. The situation re. govt. spending has not been improved by Clinton et al. The improvement has come as a result of business and people. Government typically spends/redistributes money, business/people generate it. I've never heard of a person/organization that was too stupid/incompetant to spend money. Government spending frequently exemplifies this.

Under Clinton, a delicate balance was reached in the economy permitting economic expansion to continue unabated throughout his presidency. That sustained expansion has permitted the budget to be balanced and deficits reduced....a major feat. Maybe Clinton can not take full credit but at least some of the credit can be attributed to his administration.

In spite of "faux-wars" and "police actions" the population has more then kept pace, thanks to that tax increase. Social Security, health care system, energy policies, education levels, and drug enforcement policies are no better/much worse then they were 8 years ago.

Crime is at its lowest levels in 20 years.....the reduction in urban crime has astounded most law officials in this country...again Clinton probably can not take full credit but certainly his administration is instrumental. Welfare rolls are the lowest in many years...in some states almost non-existent. An ex-professor of mine is responsible. She holds a cabinet position under Clinton. [BTW she was by far the best professor I ever had.] Another example of Clinton taking the ball and running with it.

The Clinton administration has accomplished much...while they may not be able to take full credit, they definitely were enablers, taking advantage of all the opportunities the expanding economy created.

Its just too bad he has this thing for cigars.
