Seems that what's happening with RAMBUS bears watching..

DaveMG,

I don't get the connection. How does Rambus' patent litigation affect QCOM?

I think I see the connection to QCOM you are pointing to, with one important exception. I don't know if Rambus has ever been in court (regular or patent) over its patents. In contrast, QCOM has been there many times and won 100% of the disputes.

Similarities between Rambus and Qualcomm>

The new lawsuits versus RMBS are worth watching for Q investors. RMBS is trying to collect on competing technologies (SDRAM, DDR) just like Q and WCDMA. RMBS is a pure IP play just like Q will be post Spinco and neither company is interested in any cross-licensing deals with its rivals.

Certainly the strengths of the patent portfolios for RMBS and QCOM are different, but the battles are the same.
