he's implying that Qcom patent issues might be called into question by certain companies in the hope to bring them to the negotiating table.

I had a thought about the recent 3GPP (sic) news about them forming "newco" to create a 3G pool and webster's recent post about that.

Could it be that this "newco" move is in fact a sign that QCOM's rivals have given up going the patent court route? That is, since they have lost every battle there (and most recently in Japan and Europe), they are throwing in the towel on fighting QCOM in court. Instead, they are now trying the political route.
