I've been thinking hard about this Oregon thing. And all my ruminations boiled down to three words:

Taligent, Kaleida, and OSF

I know they're not really words, but they're all pickled specimens on IBM's Dry Hole shelf. There's an empty jar waiting on that shelf for this Linux consortium.

What's that you say? Those other groups were supposed to turn out propriety for-profit software? They didn't fail just because IBM's involvement is to consortia as Medusa's gaze is to protoplasm? They were driven by the misguided and base profit motive rather than the effulgent love of all mankind that informs the Open Source Movement?
