The big 'Linux' news this week isn't the bashram of the new OSF (which is incidentally being greeted with yawns and guffaws in the Linux community). The larger news comes from our own Sun in the form of the release (into the community) of Sun's internationalization engine and Sun's major rally behind Gnome. --- Sun is moving very deliberately and very quickly relative to *everyone else in capitalising on the *nix brainshare and is clearly extending it's Unix domination. --- I always thought SUNW was *the* 'Linux' play. Lately, it's looking more and more like a death star that way. --- While IBM as much as admits it's Linux motivation is to embrace and extend Linux code on behalf of Monterey (now renamed to AIX Mark IV, or whatever), Sun is about 9 moves ahead of that kind of thinking and is absolutely on it's 'software' game now with all *nix/CORBA/etc barrels blazing. -JCJ
