Gore is a man with scandals over his head
Did you manage to catch the PBS show on Newt Gingrich? One of the subplots not explicitly narrated was how the Republican emphasis on scandal caused the scandals to take on such importance that it completely drowned out the message they actually wanted to send. The scene of Newt's draw dropping as a 5 seat decline was projected on election night when he was predicting 10-40 seat advance just a few weeks earlier was priceless.

I can see the same thing again as the Republican's try to re-run the race against Clinton, with no other message conveyed, and election night approaches and the people always end up voting for policies. It's been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same things again thinking there will be a different result.
