DRBES,

I actually do know him to some extent.

Based on this, do you feel like he is a tough loss for AMD, or do you think Ruiz will do just fine taking over additional responsibilities?

I have a feeling that Ruiz wants to be more hands on.

Joe

<V.P. Hollatz's (he is actually a very pleasant and likeable fellow) departure comes as no surprise to me.>

So, who is next at no surprise? Dirk Meyer?

DRBES and All,

I was working at NCR Micro before Larry Hollatz left for AMD. I didn't know him, so I asked an old boss to shed some light on him. This is what he emailed me back:

Hey Pravin.

Hollatz was general manager of the Colorado Springs plant, which means he was Morrissey's counterpart. He had the Springs fab and the SCSI business.
Larry thought he was hot shit, which put a lot of people off. He played the role of hip business executive....I can't really judge how good he was at his job but the SCSI business was pretty successful. Many who worked for him thought he was an asshole.

Anyway, he left after he lost out to Morrissey for the VP of the Microelectronics division spot after JVT retired. That's about all I know.

Hmmm. Maybe he lost out to Ruiz, and that is why he is leaving. Who knows.
Pravin.
