AOL......

Just left AOL, when Bell Atlantic made DSL possible. Love DSL, but it took me 3.5 hrs. to install the ethernet card (without conflicting with the other ethernet card for my printer), the software, the modem, the microfilters, the modem software, and to set up the account; and then to read about and set up the personal firewall security (ZoneAlarm).

Everything's humming, although my PC takes twice as long to boot up now, for some reason. I'll be upgrading to a P4 early next year, and you can bet I am not looking forward to reinstalling all the peripherals and software. But I love the speed. <g>

Leaving AOL was easy for me, tough for my wife. Their email service is good. When we looked at other portals to be our home page, none of them looked as good at first glance (Lycos, Excite, MSNBC, MSN, Yahoo). Fortunately, my wife is frugal; by installing DSL, we were able to decommission our 2nd phone line, and the cost of AOL. Discontinuing the monthly costs of a 2nd line PLUS Aol, more than offset the cost of DSL.........and we got more speed, better connections.

Is there anybody out there who loves their portal, besides AOL? Any Portal recommendations?
