Dean has, for quite a long time, been primarily a bull on data storage in general, and often a cheer leader and sideline pundit of the DD industry in particular. He was one of the earliest to call for the drive industry to seek diversity and interestingly, one of the earliest to remark on how the rush to NAS would result in an overcrowded space and reduced margins, thus agreeing with your earlier post regarding Dell and CPQ. I will also mention that Dean, of all the analysts, understands the technology better IMO, which actually may be a disadvantage. Nevertheless I agree with you, his presence in the CCs doesn't necessarily impress. What does impress is his willingness to do field work and his methodical analysis. His reports are chock full of data, spanning many more pages then is contemporaries. He also comes into Asia more regularly then any of the other analysts. All this said, and given his past of being slightly bullish, I was surprised when he was the first (that I am aware of) to publish revisions down but I agreed with him, especially when there was evidence of price cuts, even in the face of a chip based supply shortage. Just shows to go you, eh? <G> I swear I am going to put every penny into a blind trust with an "no DD" codicil. <GG> Best, Stitch
