MSD Capital is now ONE OF THE LARGEST VC FIRMS in the world....some of the stock sales in the last 2 years clearly freed up additional capital for the firm's global investment activities. Yet, THE VAST MAJORITY of MSD's wealth is still in DELL stock and I expect it to stay that way.

Best Regards,

Scott

John, <<<Why is Michael Dell cashing out?>>>

When you hold 343M shares with paper value of $14.5B, selling 2.5% and raising some cash is not stupid or inappropriate. DELL is his baby. Make no mistake about that. He will not do anything to harm the company - no matter what some fools may think and want to suggest. He is the founder of the company - not a hired gun. There is a big difference.

As for: <<<Some believe handheld devices and broadband technology could make personal computers obsolete. >>>

Yes, indeed, there may be a time I need to carry a device round with me to communicate with my refrigerator - that could be real cool - But let's get this straight - how many people do you know that will not be buying PC's and upgrading existing PC's for the rest of their lives.

Who is going to be making all this money developing cool hand held devices to open doors, make coffee, turn on the oven, flush the toilet?

Do you really beleive that the PC you have now will be adequate 5 years from now? And, what about those billions of people whave yet to make a phone call, will a few of them some day graduate to a level where they too could own a computer? Or, do you think we can keep these secrets of advance civilizaton to ourselves and keep the rest of humanity in the dark forever?

The announcement of the death of the PC is greatly exxaggerated.

Mary

John: Re: Besides, most financial planners attest to the importance of spreading one's wealth in various investments to offset risk.

He is sure offsetting risk in investing in Dell.
