Abstract,

It is hard to substantiate a case for censorship. The board listened to BIA's opinions (with remarkable restraint in my opinion) for a long, long time. So, it isn't as if she was unable to have her say - she just had it over and over again to the point of being TOO much.

I, for one, do not feel obligated to punish myself by listening to something I find unsupportable by logic.
I did not put her on 'ignore' but I skipped most of her posts.

Selfishly,
Sting

I don't understand how you determined there was forcible removal. There was considerable sentiment expressed that BIA was way off base & way out of line, but there was no forcible removal.

There was no censorship as you have opined. Besides, this is not a moderated thread. There is no way to remove her that I am aware of.

You made some really valid arguments about freedom of speech. I believe that almost every one on the porch strongly supports free speech. We also strongly support community standards. These standards are established so we may be free to express ourselves without having to be subjected to those who wish to abuse their right to free speech. We do not appreciate others who wish to trample on our right to enjoy discussions in a forum that has clearly expressed boundaries as to what is acceptable.

Should your freedom to express yourself allow you to invade a space created where there are certain standards established & openly violate them? Why should you have the right to trample on my right to enjoy my freedom of expression within the parameters established for that place? Where are my rights then? Am I not free to establish a place where I can expect others to respect my rights to free expression within the parameters I establish for my community? Is the right to free speech only for those who wish to abuse it & trample on others right to their own freedom of expression?

Freedom of speech is a two way street. It isn't only available to those who wish to violate my rights. Why is it those who wish to abuse free speech are the ones who hide behind the constitution so that I have no rights? Why am I not able to pursue happiness even within a discussion board that only asks that you abide by our standards if you want to be welcome?

Remember, this is not about forcing my standards on others, nor is this about some conspiracy to invade the world & forcing these standards across every boundary. It is about a tiny space set aside that I visit & communicate with others who wish to abide by the standards established in this tiny space.

Please explain this to me because I am tired of having my rights violated.

Tim
