I guess the porch has no right to set aside this tiny space where we can communicate with others who wish to abide by established community standards? Why are we expected to allow others to ruin our little porch as they hide behind the privilege of free speech? Did you even read my post?

Are you saying that in the name of free speech, we are supposed to have this porch open to all comers who don't give a rat's ass about what our community standards are? They are free to ruin our porch in the name of free speech!!! Seems that we have no rights to pursue happiness because free speech insists that those at the extreme edges are free to trample on our rights with impunity regardless of the damage they cause in the process.

Why is it that we have no rights here on the porch? We aren't imposing our standards outside the porch. It isn't about censoring as used your example. No one is being forced to join the porch nor are they forced to live by our standards. We just want to be free to enjoy discussions with those who share a similar experience. If you don't like our standards, you don't have to visit the porch.

All we are asking is that our little space be respected for the standards it holds so those who care to join can freely enjoy it..... no more, no less. This isn't about forcing our standards outside this cyber community at all. It's about respecting our right to pursue happiness within the confines of the porch.

We don't want to have to waste our valuable time sorting through unwanted &/or offensive commentary that violates the standards established for the porch. We don't want to waste my valuable time debating whtether we should be forced to allow others to intentionally violate the standards established for the porch. Heck, the standards aren't even that restrictive FWIW.

This is about allowing folks to have an oasis where they can visit & not have their expectations violated. If you want to express your right to free speech, please do it elsewhere if it is going to offend the established standards of the porch.

I am a firm believer in freedom of speech. I am just as adamant about being free to pursue happiness. To me, those who wish to repeatedly & intentionally violate the standards of the porch are no different than those who yell "fire" in a crowded theater when no fire exists. I don't want to be trampled in my pursuit of happiness by those fleeing the porch, while the cloak of free speech is used do intentionally drive everyone off the porch in droves. My life isn't worth too much if I am not free to pursue happiness because those at the extremes are allowed to abuse freedom of speech to ruin said pursuit with impunity.

This kind of nonsense (the story about the 6 year old) is being repeated all over the country. It's horrible and scary: people will be afraid to just be themselves, especially children are being taught to be little robots.
And the saddest thing, perhaps, is it's usually the "good" kids that get slapped with these prohibitions and "apologies"...the bad ones scare their teachers and parents into looking the other way on truly obnoxious behavior.
