There were also two more articles on MPR on the pros and cons of IA-64. The "pro" side was written by Worley
and Huck, two IA-64 architects from HP and Intel, respectively. They also argue that there is much more to IA-64
than just "smart compiler on dumb machine." The "con" side was written by Marty Hopkins of IBM. Believe me,
even though that guy is much more critical of IA-64 than even Pete Bannon is, his article does a more respectable
job of highlighting the negatives of IA-64 than Bannon's "tuning the fiddle."

<Now maybe you would have us all believe there is some
sort of "secret knowledge" only the mighty Intel/HP can
come up with... Prove it! You can't ...>

There is no "secret knowledge." Only publicly-available knowledge which the competition refuses to believe. Never
Underestimate The Power Of Denial."

Very cute... Okay if what you say above is true show
me a single URL out there that shows us the details.

Rob, <It is a dumb machine.>

Intel spent a considerable amount of time debunking that myth last year at Microprocessor Forum. If you haven't
seen that presentation, or you haven't read the MPR article on Itanium (10/6/99), you won't know that Intel has
been preaching "the right level of smarts" instead of "dumb machine" principles.

---

One other thing that more than drives a stake in the
ground... Compaq released their whitepaper "Alpha
and IA64" 5 days after MPR forum in 1999. They are more
than standing by their stance that it is a "dumb machine".

Show us the equivalent paper to "Alpha and IA64".

You can't because no such whitepaper exists.

The Emperor has no clothes ;-0
