ctb/A,

<< Sylvia's mother.... >>

.... "said, Sylvia's busy" ...

Sad song by the good Doctor.

<< not to be confused with those Canadian charlatans Ian and Sylvia... >>

Hey! That ain't good talk about our NA neighbors.

Speaking of which, where the heck is "uel_Dave"? I was thinking of him when I poked around on that "Bob Dylan Musical Roots and Influences" site of Manfred Helferts that you linked the other day:

members.xoom.com

And also speaking of a GREAT, bring tears to your eyes, tune written by Ian Tyson, that Bob Dylan covered, which should only be sung in duet, and only with Sylvia, how about "Song for Canada":

How come we can't talk to each other any more?
Why can't you see I'm changing too?
We got by far too long to end it feeling wrong
And I still share too much with you.
Just one great river always flowing to the sea,
One single river rollin' in eternity --
Two nations in this land that lies along its shore,
But just one river rollin' free.
How come you shut me out as if I wasn't there?
What's this new bitterness you found?
However wronged you were, however strong it hurt,
It wasn't me who held you down.

One single river always flowing to the sea,
One single river rolling in eternity --
Two nations in this land that lies along its shore,
But just one river rollin' free.
Why can't you understand I'm glad you're standing proud?
I know you made it on your own.
But in this new pride you've earned, I thought you might have learned
That you don't have to stand alone.

Lonely northern river always flowin' to the sea,
One single river rollin' in eternity --
Two nations in this land that lies along its shore
But just one river rollin' free.

How is that for "harmonization" (a wireless standards word)?

<< someone of your advanced years and peculiar musical tastes would be more interested in Sylvia's mother >>

Forget "Sylvia's mother". Sylvia has 4 years on me. She was lovely (in all senses) when, and would assume still is.

Meantime, your a youngster, but if you did not see, or hear, Sylvia Fricker in her prime, you missed something very, very, special.

Tek (fellow Curmudgeons),

You're a search wizard. Are U using GuruNet? Cool tool everyone should use.

Simply click on a word while holding down <alt> and your off. The word can be anywhere you are working, in your PIM (a zip code, trading symbol, or company name eg), in your browser, in a text editor or Word, etc.

If you don't get a meaningful hit, move to the web search sidebar and search google or your choice of engine.

Fastest way I've found to search.

Help me, Rhonda! Help me, Anyone!

Great set of sites! I had no idea about any of that. And you’re right, I have always liked DH&TMS doing "Sylvia’s Mother." Never occurred to me to wonder who wrote it, or any of his other connections.

It never occurs to me to wonder who wrote a song’s lyrics, even after I found out that Barry Manilow didn’t really write “I Write the Songs.” Even though the lyrics say right in there that he writes the songs! Sort of an eye-opener, and the first seeds of doubt and mistrust in sewed in an impressionable young mind.

Well, that’s actually OT. My purpose isn't free therapy. It actually has to do with lyrics, and it's been bothering me for at least 30 years. If it stops bothering me, I might be better adjusted, and that could have benefits all around.

The lyrics are from the Beach Boys’ song “Help Me, Rhonda.” The song starts off something like “Ever since she put me down. . . .” but that’s where I lose it. It sounds to me like they're saying “I’ve been hop-toing in my head.” But I don’t think that’s what it is because that doesn’t made sense.

I’ve actually done many searches on song lyrics sites, but to no avail. One complete jerk at some site explained that he’d had the same problem as me with the same song. The SAME problem! It had bothered him him for years, too. Constant irritation.

I'd found a kindred spirit! He’d searched high and low, and then he finally found this web site. And the site was really a find, and so helpful to him. He goes on for a couple more pages about how this has been really great for him. Finally he says “So, what are the words?” I’m holding my breath. FINALLY I’ll know. What’s he say? He says “Still no idea.”

That’s when I shot my monitor. Which explains this new one, and the new toilet tank in the next room.
