Slacker. I always felt that if one operator went CDMA 2000, then that operator would cause a second to need to go CDMA 2000. NTT is simply trying to devide Korean companies against their national interest by throwing money at them. I expect that the one or two that go w-CDMA will ultimately be handed a plate full of scraps and empty promises by the Europeans and NTT. There may be adequate scraps for one company like LG to go W-CDMA, but the second would loose in two ways--first it would get the second seat at the scrap table and second it would be competing against innovative CDMA 2000 in Korea. If only the less innovative KT is left with CDMA 2000, it could be destroyed by NTT, SK, and LG which are innovative private companies. This move by NTT would tend to destroy Samaung, Hyundae, KT, CDMA2000, and Korea's leading position in CDMA all in one strategic move. Also, it would undermine the strength of IDE etc in Japan and tend to force China to move away from CDMA 2000.

This would NTT is a kind of Japanese disruptive monster ovned by the Japanese Government, fueled by excessive connect charges in Japan, and charged to conquer the telecom markets in Foreign countries. The Korean government is a bunch of fools if they cede this power to NTT for a few crumbs waved at LG, Sk and KT. The US trade representatives are a group of total idiots if they don't oppose this NTT ploy with every available threat, promise or resource. The Chinese government are a group of fools if they don't do everything in their power to block this move by NTT to dominate CDMA in asia and force the use of NTT's system. The poor Europeans are in some other orbet--the orbet of denial in the face of overwhelming change, huge government tax/license fees indirectly destroying their wireless supremecy, jealousy of Americans to the point of self destruction. The Europeans are committed to playing a fools game--a short run game that wil destroy them in the long run.

I look for the Korean government to lead their country by forcing SK and KT to go CDMA 2000 and for China to wake up and lend some support here. The Europeans will probably procede as the rudderles conglomerate it is to its own ultimate permanent telecome inferiority.
