My own conclusions about the charges you and others are making are different than yours.

All I recall is that the way he phrased things in the clip with the students is that the clear implication was that he was responsible for exposing Love Canal.

From what I've read, the students seem to have recalled things a little differently than you. I think this was covered in the Washington Monthly. I'll give the nod to them over you.

Although I could not find the documentation, my recollection is . . . . Once again it is a matter of your recollection. Logically, whether Gore lied in this instance would depend on whether he KNEW the Tennessean story had been corrected somewhere. How could anyone else possibly know this for sure?

Next, the CJR article presented Gore as exaggerating the results of his investigative pieces, not making the whole story up as you seemed to imply.

The problem here is that you and other Gore critics seem to be bending over backward to find lies - any misstatement can't be a mistake, hyperbole doesn't exist, and an exaggeration is presented as a major lie.

I think Gore opponents would be on better ground attempting to impeach Gore's credibility by presenting examples where Gore had flip-flopped on public issues - say gun control or abortion - over the years. I seem to recall he has done so. Or one could bring up instances where Gore's stated position on issues was belied by his actions in his private life - raising tobacco on his Tennessee farm, using old growth redwood lumber in his home renovations, etc. This would get across the idea that Gore may not act in accordance with his stated positions and that thus those positions on issues may just be window dressing. This wouldn't require one to manufacture LIES out of what are obviously examples of hyperbole, minor misstatements or exaggerations.
