After reading the news story I am going to contact my credit card companies. If they have no position on this amazon policy I am going to close those accounts.

IMO if AMEX, VISA, Mastercard, Discover were to refuse to do business with Amazon unless they changed this policy it might put pressure on AMZN to retract this policy.

Of course, AMZN could just issue their own credit cards, which they probably already have.

IMO This is a policy that Congress must pass legislation to restrict.

I do not want any information given out about me. I receive so much junk mail, catalogs, and phone solicitiations. I keep sending my name to the addresses to remove ones name from mailing lists, but the junk keeps increasing.

Merry

Yes, I think Amazon is getting desperate. This policy is gonna cost them! Look to see the stock drop on Tuesday -- BIG TIME!

Maybe Jeff is using that billion dollar kitty faster than he let on???

Pal, the selling of consumer information has been going on for decades...this is not a Bezos invention
Amzn just wants to get in on that very profitable business.
Even though I personally don't like it...its a great way for Bezos to get much needed cash so he can get the Amzn bashers off his back.
Btw
Two huge sellers of consumer information? Dunn & Bradstreet and TRW.

Amazon.com has changed it's privacy policy stating that it may sell it's
database including credit card numbers. In protest, I have removed my
1-click settings and my credit card information. I don't mind them
selling my name and address and email address.....but not my credit card
number....that's my property, thank you!

PAL,

I removed my credit card too although there is no way to know if it is removed for "real." The system will not permit me to remove my email address. It insists on another. I emailed and asked that all information about me be removed and I wanted an email that stated they removed records of everything I purchased, did, etc. Then after they send me that email, they may remove my email address. The new policy varies a lot from the prior policy. One is legally entitled to have information deleted that was not to ever be sold but that is now able to be sold. Amazon has no ethics in my opinion. Particularly, management again in my opinion. I still keep wondering why Bezos needs the top floor of an entire apartment building in Manhatten. He does not even live there. He sure earned all that money by making huge returns on invested capital;-)

PAL what's the suprise?

Anyone with a brain cell saw this coming a long time ago. These people running many of these retail web sites are slime balls, everyone knows that.

When I posted here 19 mos ago about amzn tracking customers' clickstream data so they could figure out who to charge full price and who would need a discount to buy, for the same book, people laughed at me and said no it can't be true. Of course they're just doing what the airlines and hotels have been doing for years.

Well guess what.
Victor
ps, credit card info is not secure online either.
