<<Another thing the morons don't think about is that if they are successful in their smoking cessation drive, they lose tons of revenue that they collect off the sale of every pack, about $3 per. >>

If tobacco is as evil as they say it should be banned but then there are the taxes to consider. Saving lives = less taxes. Light 'em up people.

It would be interesting to know if Gore is still getting tobacco farm subsidies. You don't have to grow tobacco to get the $$$, just be a registered tobacco farm.

Didn't you hear though, raising taxes is good for the *working person*.

Looks like Gore is in a panic over the structure of the debates. Guess he's afraid to go on Meet the Press and have a back and forth dialogue without his scripted phrases memorized.

Notice how Gore is saying "but, but your daddy and Mr Dole used the stand up memorize line structure, why can't we".

Scuse me, but didn't they both lose the election?

Maybe it's because Bush actually wants to have a debate and not a pretty picture show where the mainstream reporters drone on and on with their ten minute question/statements lobbing poppy-cot softball questions both candidates have been scripted to answer in certain ways? With the mainstream reporters immediately after analyzing the debate with a "Democrat candidate looked great huh Jim" spin?

It's no secret the mainstream press is doing everything it can to get Gore elected. The focus on the latest Newsweek poll, at the exclusion of other polls such as Portrait of America, is a recent case in point. So I don't blame Bush one bit for wanting to structure the debates in order to minimize the biased press influence. He obviously trusts Meet the Press interviewers far more than the average talking point spin teleprompter reader such as Bernard (biased) Shaw.

What I find amusing is the the way the Bush camp is using tapes of Gore's very recent statement saying, "yes, I will debate on Meet the Press". And now watching his camp back-pedalling in order to get out of it.

This goes to the heart of Gore and his integrity (or lack therof) He says one thing, then does another, while pretending the first thing was never said.

It's a good strategy and I believe it will work. My prediction is the Gore camp will cave and he will be forced to attend the debate in a little over a week on Meet the Press. The free-flowing style of the show is exactly the kind of forum best suited for actually debating. And something Gore's scripted sound-bite handlers fear the most.
