Frank,

<< we rank 9th in the world. The good news is that we are ahead of the Finns <gg> >>

I am a frequent traveller on that 9th in the world ranked (Amtrak) Metroliner travelling out of Wilmington Station to NYC or DC at average speeds of 157.3 kph.

I am often talking on my Verizon CDMA/AMPS ("Qualcomm Inside") mobile and seldom drop a connection or get a fast busy. By contrast, my seat mates are often on AT&T TDMA/AMPS or Sprint CDMA and spend a lot of time staring at blankly at their phones.

Wonder what flavor of Nokia Tero uses when he makes that trip?

Not sure I need video conferencing on that jaunt, and by the time Verizon offers it, I hope to be fully retired and doing Amtrak for concerts or plays only (leaving mobile turned OFF).

OT Bullet Train

Its a nice ride but we didn't develop it for the same reason we dropped our equivalent to the Concorde: it is commercially nonviable. Not that the US hasn't found other ways to squander money.
