Cisco to buy video transfer firm PixStream

Cisco Systems Inc., the world's largest maker of Internet networking equipment, said Thursday that it has agreed to buy PixStream Inc. for $369 million in stock to acquire technology used to send video files across high-speed networks. PixStream, based in Canada, is a privately held company that sells its products to cable and Internet service providers. Cisco, based in San Jose, said it will retain PixStream's 156 employees and expects to complete the deal by the end of October. Cisco shares rose $2.06, or 3.1 percent, to $68.63 in Nasdaq stock market trading.
