James, Sarmad. Think of the price of oil as equal to another half a dozen interest rate hikes and you have a picture of the impact. The price of oil is the banana peel for this economy. Sell your stock now. We are going to see a sell-off -- this is just the beginning. Good luck.

Amtech Systems, Inc. Wins New Order From Third Optical Component
Manufacturer

TEMPE, Ariz., Sep 7, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Amtech Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASYS)
announced that it has secured its first system order from a third optical
component manufacturer.

The order is for a diffusion furnace with multiple reactor chambers. These
systems are also known in the industry as horizontal thermal reactors. This
order contemplates delivery in the first quarter of the Company's fiscal 2001.
With this new customer, the Company has reached another milestone in its plan to
rapidly expand its customer base within the optical component telecomm market,
which is a relatively new market for the Company's production equipment.

On August 16, 2000, the Company announced that it had entered into the optical
component telecomm market, a market that also uses certain semiconductor
manufacturing processes. In that announcement, Amtech marked its entry into this
market with a $6.4 million order for eleven (11) diffusion furnace systems to be
delivered over the next twelve months. The optical telecomm market uses the
Company's products in the production of optical integrated circuit devices that
are critical components in high-speed switches for broadband communications over
fiber optic lines. Also mentioned in that announcement was a system order from a
second optical component manufacturer, who now has delivered a request for
quotation on two additional systems.

J.S. Whang, the Company's President and CEO, stated "I am thrilled to announce
that we have secured our third optical component manufacturer as a customer for
our diffusion furnace systems. I thank our sales and operation personnel for
achieving this milestone in less than a month from the time we announced
entering this exciting new market, which uses our systems in the production of
these technologically leading-edge optical components used in high-speed
telecommunications. According to the recent forecast of RHK, the worldwide
optical component telecommunications market is projected to increase from $6.6
billion in 1999 to $23 billion in 2003. We plan to participate in that growth
and hope to be able to announce additional new customers in this market
relatively shortly, as we are negotiating terms with a fourth company and have
been invited to make a presentation to a fifth company in this exciting high
tech market. As always, we will provide the best possible customer service, with
the expectation that this will lead to repeat orders, in what is now clearly a
very important market for us. We believe that sales into the optical component
telecomm which will facilitate meeting our aggressive growth goals."

Amtech Systems, Inc. manufactures capital equipment, including silicon wafer
handling automation, semiconductor processing equipment and related consumables
used in fabricating semiconductor devices. Semiconductors, or semiconductor
chips, are fabricated on silicon wafer substrates, sliced from ingots, and are
part of the circuitry, or electronic components, of many products, including
computers, telecommunications devices, automotive products, consumer goods and
industrial automation and control systems. The Company's semiconductor handling
and processing products currently address the polishing of newly sliced silicon
wafers and reclaimed test wafers and the oxidation and deposition steps used in
the fabrication of semiconductors. The Company has recently found application
for its products in the optical component market
