Interesting article in WSJ on exclusion of payroll taxes in pro-forma numbers of various high tech cos...

In their quarterly earnings announcements, businesses such as BEA Systems, Cisco Systems, InfoSpace, Qualcomm and Yahoo! are playing up a net-income figure that ignores the payroll taxes they owe when employees exercise stock options -- as if the taxes had never been incurred.

I don't think SDLI is guilty of this practice in their pro-forma earnings, although I remember one enthusiastic analyst explained that the latest Q's pro forma woulda been 36 cents if they'd backed out the 2.7 mil or whatever of options-related payroll tax.
