Good question. A psyche is a complex thing! I guess I'm more impatient than you thought. <g>

I never bought TXN; I got it as a result of the BBRC merger. At the time I was elated, but my enthusiasm hasn't been rewarded. I don't have the history with TXN many of you probably have (or that I have with SUNW), so haven't developed the good karma to carry me through the tough times. It seemed the premium associated with the merger was rapidly dissipating, and I was starting to regret voting for it. I don't like to feel regret; it's one of my least favorite emotions.

TXN also didn't fit our overall portfolio very well. We only had 520 shares, so even a double (which doesn't seem terribly likely to me any time soon) wouldn't be a huge amount of money. We have other semi's that I feel better about, and in which we have larger positions (ADI, in particular -- I bought both BBRC and ADI because I thought linear/mixed was the place to be).

It was especially frustrating to see TXN down on a fairly good NASDAQ day.

I really do hope you guys do well, and probably shouldn't have spouted off quite so vigorously. It just seemed time to part.

I commend you for recognizing that psychology and patience are important parts of the game.

JMHO, of course.

Hi Snake,
At least we agree on TI. Michael Murphy's latest investment newsletter is hot on TI and is urging all to buy it.

Wall Street Hands Us Another Great Stock

TXN and other suppliers to the cell phone industry took a hit recently when Nokia said
third quarter earnings will decline because customers are delaying phone purchases until
new models are available. This is a product transition to Internet-ready phones that use
more sophisticated electronics. It’s actually good news for Texas Instruments, but Wall
Street—big surprise—didn’t see it that way.
(I’ve actually heard two completely different
stories about Nokia’s problems, the product transition explanation and another one that
parts shortages are slowing production. I’ve checked with other communications chip
companies, and none of them are seeing weakness in orders from Nokia, which means
either the product transition explanation (building inventory) or the parts shortage
explanation (orders are still high) could be true. In either case, TXN’s business should not
be impacted, and I’m not concerned. After selling the unpredictable DRAM operation,
DSPs are accelerating Texas Instruments’ growth, with quarterly revenues advancing from
$2.44 billion last September to $2.55 billion in December 1999, $2.65 billion in March and
$2.84 billion in June, up 19% from last year. They should hit $3 billion in the current
September quarter.

He expects TXN to be $90 by years end and a $120 by next year.

Go PTSC,
Michael

FWIW, I bought my position back a little while ago at 45. Here's hoping for good things ahead.
