The reason I ask that question is that IBM and DELL made a deal awhile back with DELL getting first hand information and technology from IBM research. As you are aware IBM is the leader in research in drive technology.

Does NetApp use off the shelf hard drives from companies like IBM/other vendors, or do they get their hard drives specially tailored to be more reliable or something like that?
