Very nice summation. The only thing I've got time to add is that even though the ISPs that do business with COVD didn't like that COVD bought Bluestar the demand for DSL is so strong at this point they have little choice when it come to doing business with COVD.

Regards
Geoff

FWIW, I am dropping my Covad DSL and moving to Rythms.

Reason: According to my ISP, Covad is no longer offering new DSL service to ISPs now that they have gone into retail themselves. My ISP can't offer new Covad service, and I am concerned that they would not be able to offer me a bandwidth upgrade, and could drop service at some time in the future.

Besides that, Rhythms is $20/mo cheaper, plus I will get a small bandwidth upgrade (from 184K to 256K). (This is for "commercial" service - multiple IPs, server hosting, etc. - my bill will go from $140/mo to $120/mo)

So, while Covad is going to pick up new retail customers, their existing customers that they got through ISPs are going to slowly drop away.

It's also left a bad taste with the ISPs (mine, at least...) which is going to be a roadblock if they re-think their decision.

Now, that said, I've traded the stock on this rally, because of the unexplained price behaviour. I LIKE unexplained price behaviour. :)

(Just wish I'd have picked up those Sept 20 calls at 1/4 the other day, though...)
