appro,

I run the current Win98 version Norton SystemWorks 2000 without grief but it has not always been so simple.
IMO, Much of Norton Systemworks is the computer equivalent of sweet smelling cologne or perfume. A lot of the benefits exist only in the perceptions of the user which are created by the marketing folks. I use the stuff too, but it sure can cause a big stink. And it simply can not cover up real problems in computer hygiene which can often be fixed more readily with the basic soap and water of Microsoft system utilities.

Could you elaborate on which ms system utilities do a better job and the reasons. I use norton but would have no problem switching to a "better mousetrap".

TIA,

tc

re your statement "A lot of the benefits exist only in the perceptions of the user which are created by the marketing folks"

imo, that is a bit of an insulting thing to say, while at the same time propping yourself up as someone who is too wise to fall for these professed marketing schemes.

i'm going to refrain from sharing with you why symantec software is so beneficial, because my goal is not to convince you or anyone else of its merit, and because i personally think you don't care.

mainly i wish to take exception to your implication that you are of greater intelligence than the people who are being bamboozled by the "sweet smelling cologne or perfume".

as for your remark that, "I use the stuff too, but it sure can cause a big stink"... it would be equally inappropriate for me, for instance, to say of you that you just don't understand how or when to use the software.... not unlike the person who can't dance and chooses to blame the floor.

appro, > I run the current Win98 version Norton SystemWorks 2000 without grief <

So do I. I do not have crash guard enabled, since crashes
are very few for me these days.

I do wish there was a real alert when new AV defs are available. As it is, the warning seems based on calendar days only. But mr mark makes up for that. :)

With the exception of "Hi mitch-c, Welcome and thanks," I withdraw my statement.
