Per OPEC rules if the oil stays above $30/barrel for 20 consecutive days, it will trigger an automatic increase in production quotas. Don't count on oil prices rising much higher and stay that high on an ongoing basis. OPEC will be impacted heavily if recession hits US economy and so it is not in their interest. Also there is an OPEC meeting going on in Vienna.
Besides people do not mind paying a little higher for gas as it impacts SUV driving public or ones with big houses. In other words Republicans.
