John - Re: "I now have about 900 MP3 music files on my PC, every one of my favorite songs and my wife's favorite songs. We can play them at will, in any order we want, with ease. MUCH better than listening to CD's where you may only want to one or two out of 8 tracks on each one.

The problem is, they reside in my home office. So when we want to listen to music, we end up in a cramped, messy room sitting in front of a PC. "

Doesn't the new group of portable MP3 players address this issue? - such as the Diamond Rio ?

By the way - I congratulate you on having 900 songs that your entire family all like.

I think 6 or 7 songs is about all that my family can agree on together.

Paul

John, <So when we want to listen to music, we end up in a cramped, messy room sitting in front of a PC. Instead of in the family room or by the pool.>

CD burners are being sold for real cheap these days. You could easily find one for under $200. Just burn several CDs with mixes of your favorite songs, and you'll be able to listen to them just about anywhere.

Ideally, I'm hoping that flash memory becomes so abundant and so high-capacity (and low cost) that MP3 players (like Diamond Rio or Creative Nomad) become as ubiquitous as cassette decks used to be. Unfortunately, piracy fears will most definitely slow this movement.
