I see threads going moderated more and more on SI. A number of the newer threads are now being set-up as moderated from the beginning anyway. 2. It is tool we must use in cyberland since we are not able to do so in person. For example, I have been to many public forums where people have been excluded, escorted out of the meeting, due to their behavior. I've seen it happen at school board meetings, city board meetings, and many of the athletic events I've attended. In fact, it happened at the soccer game yesterday when a parent got out of control with their comments. Numerous people tried to reason with this person to no avail. Eventually the officials stopped the game and demanded the person leave the park before resuming the game. The crowd, even some on his team, clapped at his exit. It is a matter of civility and respect. Such is not an unreasonable expectation. 3. It does not bother me one bit to have this thread moderated. I don't expect to see the moderated tool used in an abusive way. Heck, it may never be used again. In fact, the people on here should be commended for adopting a forum to manage the use of the moderated feature. That speaks highly of the caliber of people that are on the Porch. 4. I still think of this thread as the old thread. Great people, with great compassion and restraint. With all the threads on SI, this is the one I've chosen, and it's because of the great people. If this weren't my cup of tea, so to speak, then I can move on, just like in real life if I were living in a place or working in situations not to my liking. Hope everyone has a super week. RR
