Bill is a scratch golfer. He and his wife are playing a course they never played before with some friends. On the ninth hole he hooks one into the rough. As he sets up for a shot he realizes he will have to take two shots to get to the green. His friend points to a shortcut. In order to make the shot bill will have to hit the ball through a barn with both of its doors open. If he can do that he will be right on the green. Bill tries the shot and the ball bounces of the barn, hits his wife in the head and she dies.

A year later Bill is playing the same course and again hooks his ball into the identical place. A friend who is with him suggests that he try to get on the green by hitting through the barn. Bill replies: "Nope, I tried that last year and I had to take a seven".
