RNWK--Warner Music, Realnetworks in Digital Music Pact

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Record label Warner Music Group and media company RealNetworks Inc. (NasdaqNM:RNWK - news) on Monday said they would jointly distribute music from Warner recording artists for digital downloading beginning in November.

Warner, a unit of media powerhouse Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:TWX - news), will offer current singles and ``Internet-only'' tracks on Web retailing sites, including Amazon.com Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMZN - news) and Walmart.com, the online venture of the world's largest retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT - news).

Some artists available for digital playback at the service's launch will be Barenaked Ladies, Collective Soul and Paul Simon.

Warner is the last of the big-five record labels to announce a digital distribution initiative in the midst of a heated court battle against Redwood City, Calif.-based Napster Inc., a music downloading site the companies say facilitates copyright infringement and online piracy.

Shares of RealNetworks were up 1/4 to $49-11/16 in trading Monday on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Shares of Time Warner were up $1-1/8 to $80-1/2 on the New York Stock Exchange.
