Idealogy is not unimportant. But an individual's ideology should not take precedence over collective idealogy of the nation. Once elected as a president, he should be able to give precedence to wishes of people over party's/individual's idealogy. Al Gore can do that. GWB has not shown the spine to do that. By that measure John McCain is the only one who has demonstrated that he can stand up against his own in the interest of largest cross section of society. Many individuals like me are embarrassed with Clinton's personal behaviour. In this regard Gore and Clinton are poles apart. To his credit, Gore has been a loyal VP and has fullfiled his task admirably barring questionable fund raising events. The country should be in the business of electing a President, not the spiritual head.
