Don,

1. Suspect that the HMOs are working with substantially different margins than chip companies. Thus the 5% is relevant.

2. Patient outcomes were also better. Suspect most doctors and patients would see a benefit to paying less for achieving better health and wellbeing.

If you were a patient, would it make a difference to you? ... or would you just happily pay 5% more to feel worse and die sooner.
